Questions to ask a Cake maker before booking.

Are you registered? Do you have food hygiene training?

Any professional bespoke cake marker will have some sort of food safety certificate and should have no problem sharing this with you, (mine is on all my sites to see) and indeed if registered with their local council they should show up on the food standards agency website by serching business name and area they are based in http://ratings.food.gov.uk

Do you have insurance?

All businesses should have relevant public liability insurance in place and again should be happy to provide proof of cover.

Have all the cakes on your website been made by yourself?

When searching bespoke cake makers ask if images are their own, as some people use other work and this may not represent their quality of work. This should be stated if using other work. During booking you may want to share a image of what you would like to have made to help with what you want ( although no cake maker can do the exact design it will always be to likeness)

How long will the cake last for?

A few times I've had a person order a cake and on collection say its for in a weeks time. Please only ever order your cake the the day of or before as they are not the same as supermarket cakes there is no additives or preservatives, your cake is at its best for a few days.

Do you provide FREE FROM cakes?

Not all cake makers especially home based bakers can provide this service so it is important you ask upfront.
